Why I’m Addicted to Life and Love Being Alcohol Free

Since I found help to stop drinking alcohol, I have come to realise that the biggest wins come not from seeking happiness from a temporary high, but from living and enjoying my life – everyday.

That’s right, instead of being addicted to alcohol, I am addicted to life.

Instead of feeling bad from drinking too much, I love being alcohol free.

Rather than just worrying about how to quit, I know how to help someone stop drinking alcohol.

Rather than using alcohol to feel good, we need to understand why does alcohol make you feel bad?

It feels much better to be addicted to life, than worrying about drinking too much all the time.  I can enjoy feeling better every day, I can choose to exercise more, and I can choose to eat healthy food.

Why do I feel better without alcohol?

The answer is simple, but I am ashamed to report that it took me such a long time to learn about life.  If you are searching for answers, then maybe I have stumbled across something that can help.

If drinking too much alcohol is preventing you from making the most of your life, or if you always wonder why does alcohol make you feel bad, then it is time to get your priorities right.  You need to get some regular exercise, and change those bad habits around alcohol.

Why does alcohol make you feel bad?

If you find yourself drinking too much alcohol in a vain attempt to feel better, then we need to substitute the short term high for more long term happiness. There are many ways to find happiness that do not involve drinking alcohol, but the problem with alcohol is that it tends to get in the way of other choices.

Does drinking alcohol get in the way of exercise?

For example, we all know that some level of exercise can help with our body image, and the opposite is true, when we don’t get enough exercise, our emotions can turn negative.  Most people think that they need physical exercise to improve their physical condition, so that they feel better about themselves.  This may not actually be the truth.

Scientists are now aware that the main benefits from physical exercise are psychological.  Regular exercise has been proven to be one of the most powerful ways to avoid stress and depression.  It turns out that physical exercise is good for your body, as well as your brain for help to stop drinking.

Here are some of the immediate benefits of exercise over drinking:

  • Improved blood circulation
  • Improved brain function
  • Improved muscular fitness
  • Improved alertness
  • Improved happiness
  • Reduced stress

But there are also some long term benefits of exercise:

  • Increased metabolism
  • Improved body image
  • Reduced susceptibility to illness
  • Improved happiness
  • Better lifestyle choices (food, sleep, reduced alcohol)
  • Better ability to handle stress

So why do we choose to drink over exercise?

The biggest decision factor would be choosing relaxation over exertion, or choosing the short term high with alcohol rather than the long term benefits of exercise.

This is extremely short sighted thinking.  The perceived happiness from alcohol does not last very long, and generally the stress always comes back, no matter how hard we try to ignore it.

There is a better way – become addicted to life!

It is becoming clear that the decision to ignore proper lifestyle choices in favor of drinking alcohol is short sighted, and might actually be causing the unhappiness in the first place!  There is a better way to quit drinking without AA or paying for expensive rehab or taking pills to help stop drinking.

Look after your mind – don’t fill it with false cheer!help to stop drinking

The best way to look after your mind just might be exercise.  I know that committing to a short amount of exercise each day can be difficult at first.  But this might be due to old thinking.  We all know how hard it is to lose weight and improve our physical appearance.  And that can make motivation a bit tough.  But what if I told you that you get an instant lift from just one session of physical activity?  Just one walk in the fresh air and sunshine, can give your mind a huge boost, and it begins with the very first try!

So don’t delay any longer – get help to stop drinking!

There is no need to postpone and no need to wait for years to get results.  Even if you don’t like running, or don’t like going to the gym, that is no excuse for letting your mind suffer.  The easiest and quickest way to improve your happiness and well being is not gained through medication or drinking alcohol, but rather from good old fashioned exercise, and it doesn’t have to be overly strenuous or take up hours of your day or years of your life.

Look at happiness differently

Instead of treating happiness as something you get from a bottle, we need to focus more on improving our mental well being.  Instead of treating exercise like a long term burden, why not embrace it as the way to bring back our happiness and enjoyment of life.  If we understand that physical activities can actually improve our mental state of mind, then the next step can be to choose to reduce how much alcohol we drink, or better still, how to stop drinking.

Do you want more from your life?  Then try some regular exercise, build up your energy levels, get some better sleep and give your mind a boost.  You will definitely feel better, and make better choices, such as how to stop drinking on your own.
